The pots and pans we have were the ones we got when we got married. Some of them are starting to show their use and are looking really old. I know that several of you are good cooks and cook often, so I am looking for recommendations. Stainless, Nonstick, cast iron, do you need some of each? I have no idea. Any brands? We have Calphalon and like those, but I am open to any. I also would like something I could put on the stove and in the oven. Any advice would be appreciated!
Oh, while I'm at it, any knife recommendations? Kellee & Anthony really like the Miracle Blade, so I am looking at those. Thanks!!
On another note, I went to a restaurant supply store today. It was fun to look at everything. Their prices seemed pretty good. They have everything you can imagine.

I still have the Revere Ware I got when we married 16 years ago, and they look and cook great. A cast-iron skillet would be VERY handy and could go from stove-top to oven. I have only one non-stick pot (Faberware) and one non-stick skillet, and I only use those for very sticky things (like rice).
My favorite pan of all is a very deep skillet that's about 14" across--it's huge and holds big one-pot recipes, and can go in the oven as well.
And don't laugh, but I have a set of Ginsu knives--remember those commercials? I got them as a wedding gift, and they are still pretty sharp. I could use a chef's knife, though, so I'll be interested to see what brand other people recommend.
PS We're having fun playing with your kids here in H-town! Hope you're enjoying your "days off!"
We registered for the same kind as you when we got married, and even though I like them- they are starting to show their age. I actually have VERY strong opinions about cookware now that I sell Pampered Chef. They have a GREAT non-stick line, and a new stainless line coming out in Sept! Both have a lifetime warranty & I would recommend them to everyone! If you're interested, let me know- I'd love to tell you more about them! You can get them for 60% off in Sept! ~Whitney
I'm sorry for posting twice, but I just wanted to add on that the new Forged cutlery with Pampered Chef is fantastic too- extremely sharp and also have a lifetime warranty. Hope I'm not sounding like a commercial! Both the knives and cookware would still be my favorite even if I wasn't a consultant- I PROMISE! OH, and the knives are the special in Aug. ~Whitney
All Clad is my favorite. It is the best! I have the stainless steel line. I plan on getting just one non-stick for omletts and fratatas(sp?). I ran a small cafe when we lived in Waco and the stainless is the best. Also, Wusthof and Henkels are excellent knives. Worth the price tag. Crate and Barrel, Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma are good places to get all of these items. Sometimes they have specials on them. Good luck with your search!

Thanks for all your great ideas. I will be looking at all your suggestions. So many things to learn, but I want to invest in some quality stuff that will last.
I think a good variety of pots and pans are good to have: we have a few non-stick (Calphalon), a cast-iron (Lodge) and a stainless steal (Cuisinart) that can go on stove and in the oven. It was only like $30 and it works great. I wouldn't recommend buying a whole set. It seems like a lot of times some of the pieces don't ever get used because they aren't the right size or not what you prefer. It might be a little more expensive to buy them separately but at least you will get exactly what you want. I am actually on the hunt for a new non-stick saute pan; mine has lost all of its non-stick feature.
Yes, we like the Miracle Blades but I also invested in one very good Chef's knife that is great for chopping. It was expensive but should last years. I don't know the brand off the top of my head and since its packed and on its way to Dallas I'll have to look when I unpack it. I think its a German brand though.
I would have been in heaven in that store...was that in Austin? Maybe we can go next time I visit. I can always find an excuse to purchase cooking supplies!
